The classes start at 9am, so it is suggested that you eat a little something before class. A banana or an apple would be a good choice. Eating a big meal before a yoga class is not recommended, if you need a bigger meal eat a couple hours before class starts.

Come 10 or 15 minutes early so you are settled in and can enjoy the entire class & as a courtesy to others.

Do not wear any perfume or strong scented lotion, or essential oil etc.

No yoga mat needed

Wear comfortable clothes, dressing in layers works well for some students.

Let the teacher know if you have any physical/medical issues or injuries

Done other styles of yoga - So you've done the 'gym' yoga classes, or you've done 'power yoga' or Iyengar, Ashtanga, Kundalini, Anusara, Bikram or one of the many different styles of yoga and you may find you like all of them or you may like some more than others. The thing is, you haven't found one that truly resonates with you on a level that inspires you to be consistent, to do a home practice or to dive in a little deeper in the teachings of yoga. You may find that Svaroopa gives you more.

Injury recovery - this practice is exceptional at giving you tools for your recovery process. Since the poses are easy and supported, you will get much benefit from a little gentle yoga practice.

Peace of mind - The goal of yoga is to quiet your mind. Svaroopa excels here.

Never done yoga/not much experience doing yoga - no problem. We have newcomers classes for you to try that are free. Then we have a 4 week series that will teach you the core poses of the practice. We start out with easy, gentle poses and slowly incorporate other poses into the classes.

Heard from a friend - what a gift! They must love you very much indeed! Many Svaroopa students are so excited about what they've learned and what they've experienced as a result of Svaroopa Yoga, they simply can't help but share with you this wonderful discovery! You are blessed indeed.

Meditators - This practice is PERFECT for preparation to mediate. It will open your spine & make it easier for you to sit more comfortably for longer periods of time.

Runners, cyclist, hard core athletes - most of you don't have a personal massage therapist to release tension in the muscles after the workout. This practice will give you the tools to release tension in your body. Svaroopa Yoga has a series of poses (4) you can learn that will take about 15 minutes to do - which you do after intense exercise. Many yoga practices are more akin to exercise, which you already do! So you need a way to decompress your spine, and get the muscles to return to their natural state.

Shavasana - Svaroopa Yoga
Shavasana

Class Description

Each class starts out in Shavasana (picture on the right) using blankets to support your legs so that your spine can rest along the floor. When you are set up in this manner the muscles in your spine will begin to relax and soften and you will immediately feel relief. From Shavasana we will do a guided awareness through the entire body, followed by an simple but powerful breathing practice. After the breathing practice we will go through a series of poses designed to release the tension in the spinal muscles.

Some people think of yoga as a form of exercise or stretching, however this is not what we are attempting to create in this practice. The idea is simple, to release tension and decompress the spine, allowing the energy to flow unimpeded by tension and misalignment. Of course there's much more to it than that, so I encourage you to treat yourself to a class or a private session or whatever works into your schedule.
