Svaroopa Yoga has been described as gentle, relaxing, blissful, restorative, easy, therapeutic...and the list goes on Frankly, none of these come close - they lack juice, flavor, meat (excuse me for using a seemingly non-yogic term).
Here's a shot at some other ways that are ideally more descriptive:
- Deeper Yoga - Your experience in a Svaroopa class will very likely be deeper than in other yoga classes. Especially if we are teaching "Deeper Yoga". However, even in a continuing level class you may have this experience.
- Ahhhhh...Yoga - What you will say/think/feel as soon as you get propped up in your first Shavasana at the beginning of class. The support of using customized props: blankets, blocks, cushions will help you settle in comfortably from the start
- Now this is Yoga/Yoga! You will instinctively know that this is perfect for you right now. Which leads me to the next description
- Coconut Yoga - you either love it, or you don't dig it at all. It appeals to many, but not to all.
- Top Chef Yoga - The teachers who have studied Svaroopa Yoga are highly trained professionals. In order to maintain a Certified Svaroopa Teacher status, we must do ongoing education to stay certified. We serve up a consistently wonderful combination of pranayama, asana, guided awareness, anatomy, and more - and we all add our own flavor to the mix.
- Decompression Yoga - we are teaching you how to decompress, how to release old patterns, how to be in your body & listen to your own inner wisdom
Ultimately there is no way to describe Svaroopa - you must experience it for yourself - and I invite you to do just that.....you will know if this is the practice for you because you will be drawn to class over and over again. It will be something you look forward to, may even be the highlight of your week!
Strip away the layers of tension and re-acquaint yourself with your "Self"
Shanti (Peace)

| The Founder of Svaroopa Yoga - Swami Nirmalananda |
 |
| Swami Nirmalananda Saraswati |
|
| Swami Niramalanda is the founder of Svaroopa Yoga. The practice is born from the teachings of Kashmir Shaivism, based in that lineage. As the former Rama Berch, she was the first President of the Yoga Alliance, keynote speaker at many yoga conferences, and ran the yoga program at The Chopra Center for several years when they were neighbors in La Jolla California in the late 90's.
I am forever grateful to have had the honor to study and continue to study with such a master.
Excerpt from her bio:
Formerly known as Rama Berch, Swami Nirmalananda was honored with initiation into the ancient order of Saraswati monks in 2009. Now wearing the traditional orange, she has openly dedicated her life to serving others. more:
With deep gratitude,

Svaroopa®Yoga is gentle, effective and powerful.
When you see yoga magazines, you may be intimidated by what you see. Yoga has many different 'flavors' and Svaroopa is like a fine dark chocolate truffle that melts in your mouth & leaves you feeling full and satisfied. Ok, maybe I'm going a little over the top - I like to make food analogies - and it seems like a pretty good fit.
So getting back to yoga....you don't have to be flexible or in shape to do yoga. We don't do headstands, we don't heat the room (unless it's cold) and we don't push you to stretch further, or effort more in the poses. This practice is non-exercise oriented & it's also not stretching. You will be encouraged to soften into gentle supported angles, and allow the poses to work on you.
You can find more information about Svaroopa throughout this site & on the web as well. You may want to start by clicking on New Students to read more.
